Labex Day 26 – From Emerging Threats to AMR

From AMR to Emerging Threats: Understanding Pathogens for Effective Control

A joint symposium by IBEID & Pasteur 2030 Priority Axis 1 “Infectious Disease Threats” of the Pasteur 2030 Strategic Plan

June 8, 2026 – Amphithéâtre Duclaux – Institut Pasteur

For this 2026 edition of the annual Labex Day, we decided to create a joint symposium focusing on AMR, in partnership with Priority 1 of the Pasteur 2030 Strategic Plan.

Held on June 8th at Institut Pasteur, under the title “From AMR to Emerging Threats: Understanding Pathogens for Effective Control“, this one-day event will bring together scientists, clinicians, and public health experts to explore the current challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance through a transdisciplinary One Health lens. From the surveillance and identification of resistant pathogenic strains in humans and animals, including the pivotal work carried out by National Reference Centers (CNRs), to the deciphering of infectious mechanisms and the development of innovative therapeutic and clinical strategies to combat antibiotic resistance, the symposium will offer a comprehensive overview of the field.

This year, we will have the honor of welcoming Professor Jean-Yves Madec and Professor Katharina Schaufler for two keynote lectures.

Young scientists will be particularly celebrated through a session featuring presentations by the latest Pasteur-Roux Cantarini fellows working on these topics.

This event is open to the whole scientific community. Registration is free but mandatory.

Keynote Speakers:

Jean-Yves Madec, Scientific Director on AMR at the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Health Safety (Anses) and AMR One Health Coordinator at the Institute of Immunology, Inflammation, Infectiology and Microbiology at Inserm

Jean-Yves Madec is Doctor in Veterinary Medicine, PhD in public health, post-graduate on AMR in human medicine, molecular microbiologist and research director at Anses and Inserm. His research interests focus on molecular genomics and epidemiology of AMR in a One Health perspective. As member of several expert groups on policies and strategies on AMR, he provides senior level guidance, expertise and support to the implementation of the One Health National Action Plan on AMR in France. He was former Vice-Chair, and then Chair, of the Scientific Advisory Board of the JPIAMR (2017-2021) and is Head of the FAO Reference Centre for AMR attributed to Anses in 2020.

Katharina Shcaufler, Professor at University Medicine Greifswald and Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Ecology of Antimicrobial Resistance at the Helmholtz Institute for One Health

Her research focuses on the evolution and functional dynamics of antimicrobial resistance, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between resistance, virulence, and bacterial fitness in a One Health context. She combines genomics with experimental approaches to dissect underlying mechanisms and evolutionary trajectories, particularly in Enterobacterales such as Klebsiella pneumoniae. Her work aims to better understand how clinically relevant bacteria emerge and persist.
